Grandma was cool before the trend....

Over the past year or so, the trend of grouping odds and ends into a lyrical and colorful landscape, especially with cool blues and turquoises, has popped up everywhere.

But my grandma knew this design arrangement to be cool before it was hip.

She has it - you know - the "knack" of showcasing her cherished things. This photo is just a small corner of her covered patio. Since my grandpa got sick and passed, this forgotten area has not seen much admiration. But as I passed it going into the house this morning, I stopped and revered her gift, and the simple display of artful and harmonious pieces.

You probably have items in your home that you don't even realize could "go together." Look around this weekend for an unused side table or niche that goes unnoticed. See if you have small decor items that are spread out, that may make more of an impact if you group them in a balanced display -- carefully noting complementing colors and scale of the objects.    If you place a heavy, dark figurine on one side, try adding height and mixing in a few dark items on the other side. Sit a tall object on decorative books; vary height of objects and if you have the ability to add a lighting source to highlight your new display, it will bring this new feature to life!  Just play with the table scape and have fun!
