Brass is making a resurgence in an updated, sexy way. Not like those curvilinear hanging brass light fixtures, but in shapely and geometric stair railings, bookends, and yes, 1970's cocktail tables.
There
are ways to work this finish into your current interior to give it some
metallic interest without looking like it's "leftover" from your 1st
apartment. First, look for items with more contemporary shapes, and add your existing pieces to give it an updated look, such as framed fabric with brass frames and sprays of fresh flowers like gladiolas or peonies. You will be amazed when you add some of this retro metallic finish to your environment...it gives a sophisticated sheen. Try adding one piece in one room and play around with making it the stand out piece.
I found this sweet brass nautical-esque lantern to add to my living room side table scape.
You can spend a lot of "brass" or a few bucks on a Craigslist find, but either way, I challenge you to make this a new addition to your space.
I'm off to make some pretty....
